The Government of Punjab has officially launched the CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2026, a major step toward modernizing public transport while creating new employment opportunities for young drivers across the province. The initiative, introduced under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz, focuses on eco-friendly transportation powered by electric vehicles.
The program aims to reduce fuel dependency, control urban pollution, and provide affordable earning opportunities through digitally managed taxi services.
What Is the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme?
The CM Punjab E-Taxi Program is a government-supported initiative that enables eligible citizens to obtain electric taxis on easy financing plans. These vehicles will operate in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad during the first phase.
The project aligns with Pakistan’s clean energy vision and smart urban mobility plans for 2026.
Key Features of the E-Taxi Scheme
- Electric taxis provided on subsidized installment plans
- Priority for unemployed youth and skilled drivers
- Zero or low fuel cost due to electric charging
- Digital ride monitoring and tracking system

Drivers will also receive professional training before vehicle delivery to ensure service quality and passenger safety.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
Applicants must meet basic requirements set by the Punjab government:
- Valid CNIC issued by National Database and Registration Authority
- Punjab domicile
- Valid driving license
- Basic driving experience
- Ability to operate app-based transport systems
Preference will be given to individuals seeking self-employment opportunities.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
The introduction of electric taxis supports Pakistan’s climate goals by lowering carbon emissions and reducing reliance on petrol and diesel vehicles. Officials expect the initiative to significantly improve air quality in crowded urban centers.
At the same time, the scheme promotes entrepreneurship by allowing drivers to earn stable monthly income through regulated ride services.
Registration Process and Implementation
Online registration is expected to begin through official Punjab government digital portals managed by the Punjab Information Technology Board. Applicants will submit personal details, driving credentials, and verification documents online.
The first batch of electric taxis is scheduled for distribution during early implementation phases in 2026.
Future Expansion Plans
Authorities plan to expand the E-Taxi network to additional districts after successful rollout in major cities. Charging stations and service centers will also be developed to support long-term electric mobility across Punjab.
